For our next webinar we are privileged to have Andrew Filisetti and Pat McMahon from CSIRO joining us to share the latest developments in technologies for coastal and deep ocean monitoring.
Environmental monitoring is undergoing rapid change as new technologies expand our ability to observe ecosystems across larger areas and at greater frequency. In this webinar, CSIRO researchers will showcase a range of innovative monitoring approaches, including environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling technologies, autonomous platforms and the Argo Network, a global array of autonomous robotic profiling floats.
These technologies are helping to address some of the fundamental challenges of environmental monitoring, including collecting reliable data across vast and often remote environments, improving the frequency and consistency of observations and translating large volumes of information into actionable insights. Drawing on examples from aquatic monitoring programs, the presentation will explore how emerging sensing and observing technologies are being integrated with established monitoring approaches to support more efficient data collection, broader environmental coverage and better-informed decision-making for industry and regulators.

Richard Campbell
Managing Director, HydroTerra
Richard Campbell is an entrepreneur with a strong expertise in environmental monitoring, combining a strong understanding of monitoring applications with the capabilities of modern technologies. His early career in geology, hydrogeology and environmental science underpins his work across a wide range of industries.
Richard has built and led HydroTerra into a high-quality monitoring company, supported by skilled engineers, scientists and a strong network of technology partners. His integrated knowledge of applications and technology has enabled the delivery of innovative, automated and cutting-edge monitoring solutions.
Andrew Filisetti
Senior Research Engineer, CSIRO
Andrew Filisetti is a Senior Research Engineer with CSIRO based in Hobart, Tasmania. He leads the Sensor Prototyping Hub, a multidisciplinary engineering capability focused on accelerating the development of novel sensing systems and autonomous platforms from concept through to field deployment.
Andrew previously served as Director of CSIRO's Autonomous Sensors Future Science Platform, where he helped shape national research initiatives in sensing and autonomous systems. He continues to provide engineering leadership for multidisciplinary efforts addressing complex environmental and operational challenges.
Andrew has extensive experience developing solutions for environmental monitoring and marine science. His work centres on translating scientific challenges into practical engineering outcomes, guiding ideas from early-stage research through to operational deployment.
Pat McMahon
Senior Experimental Scientist, Team Leader (Bluewater), CSIRO
Pat McMahon is a Senior Experimental Scientist and Team Leader (Bluewater) at CSIRO. Based in Hobart, he supports Australia’s contribution to the international Argo ocean observing program.
Pat’s work is focused on increasing float efficiency and sharing his innovations with the international Argo community and float manufacturers to provide more data for climate research and operational forecasts at a reduced cost. He is the founding chair of the Argo Technicians Community of Practice, which connects technicians, scientists, and engineers from institutions around the world to share knowledge, strengthen capability and improve the efficiency of the global Argo array.
Pat comes to CSIRO from industry. He has a background in E&I (Electrical and Instrumentation), working in munitions and Pulp and Paper manufacturing for more than 13 years. Pat is particularly interested in practical innovation and in translating new technologies into reliable, sustained ocean observations.
